Being at home more has allowed me to really start to look at my living space and evaluate how each room can be maximized. We already had a cozy guest room downstairs for our occasional guests but didn’t have a dedicated office area. These days I have to work in the kitchen/dining area so I can keep an eye on my 2 year and be able to easily make food and eavesdrop on my other son’s school Zooms, so I don’t necessarily need an office, but it’s nice to have an area to organize your materials and write your to do lists for the day. So, that’s when I decided to take a small area of the guest room and convert it into an “office”. I am sure my guests won’t mind having a desk nearby in case they need to catch up on some work as well. The office won’t be heavily used, so hopefully it won’t get too messy, but I’m glad to have a mini-escape zone.
I didn’t buy anything new for this office space. Instead, I reused items from around the house. The desk is from Ikea few years ago, so I don’t remember the name of it. The chair was a great find from Marshal’s that I have seen in a few different Marshal’s around my area. The flowers and vase are from Michael’s. It’s very easy to build your own floral arrangement at Michael’s. The metal filing drawers are from Target on discount for $12, a nice item that I snagged from my mom’s organizational stash.
One challenge for this space was decorating around the electrical cabinet. The cabinet is magnetic, so I picked up some succulent magnets from Target, but you can get the same from Amazon here. Honestly, I really enjoyed this simple, easy and cheap mini-office escape and can’t wait to find my next mini-project, because it really has made the guest room a treat for me and my future guests.
